Why Aluminum

The rust-proof Triangle fence

Aluminum is the right fence for front yards, pool enclosures, and any homeowner who wants the timeless wrought-iron look without the rust, repainting, or maintenance. It's the most expensive of our three materials upfront, but it lasts essentially forever — a properly installed aluminum fence will outlast the home it surrounds. There's no rot, no rust, no warp, no fade beyond what powder coating slowly weathers, and no annual maintenance cycle.

Aluminum is also the most popular pool fence material in North Carolina because it meets NC pool code, is unaffected by chlorine and constant moisture, and is required by many HOAs for visual consistency with surrounding properties. Pool installations use code-compliant heights (typically 5-ft minimum to meet the 48-inch barrier requirement with margin), self-closing magnetic gates, and narrow picket spacing — standard pool-code installation includes all required dimensions and hardware.

For front yards, aluminum lets you define the property and contain pets without blocking the view of your home — exactly the opposite goal of a privacy fence. In Triangle neighborhoods with mature landscaping and architectural homes, a 4-ft black aluminum fence frames the property and lifts the curb appeal in a way that wood or vinyl simply can't. It's also the right answer for sloped yards: aluminum panels rack to follow grade up to 15°, giving a continuous fence line that vinyl can't match.

Styles

Aluminum fence styles & options

Every aluminum style installs on exact 6-ft post centers with concrete-set posts. Most styles are rackable for slopes; all styles are available pool-code rated when specified.

Classic 3-Rail

Three horizontal rails with vertical pickets — the timeless wrought-iron look in aluminum. The most popular Triangle style. From $48/LF.

Spear-Top & Decorative

Pickets that extend above the top rail with spear, ball, or fleur-de-lis caps. Higher-end estate look. From $54/LF.

Pool-Code Aluminum

Code-compliant 4-ft or 5-ft pool fence with magnetic self-closing/self-latching gates. Pool inspectors approve. From $52/LF.

Black, Bronze, White

Powder-coated black is standard and most popular; bronze and white available. Specialty colors (green, almond) with extended lead time.

Rackable for Slopes

Most styles rack up to 15° to follow grade — a clean continuous fence line on hillsides, unlike vinyl which must be stepped.

Walk & Drive Gates

Walk gates with self-closing hinges and double drive gates (8–12 ft) with drop rods. All gates pool-code compatible when specified.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does aluminum fence rust?

No. Aluminum doesn't contain iron, so it physically cannot rust — that's the core advantage over traditional wrought iron or steel. Our aluminum fence is powder-coated, which seals the surface against scratching and adds another decade of finish life. In a Triangle climate, a properly installed aluminum fence will outlast the house. It is the lowest-maintenance fence material we install, period.

Can aluminum fence be used around a pool?

Yes — aluminum is the most popular pool fence material in North Carolina. It meets standard pool code requirements (48-inch minimum height in most NC jurisdictions, narrow picket spacing, self-closing and self-latching gates). We install pool-rated aluminum fence with magnetic self-latching gates, confirm exact requirements with your county before installation. Aluminum is preferred for pools because it doesn't rust from chlorine exposure, doesn't rot from constant moisture, and looks finished from both sides.

What heights does aluminum fence come in?

Aluminum fence comes in 4-ft, 5-ft, and 6-ft heights as standard. 4-ft is most common for front yards and decorative property lines — it defines the yard without blocking the view of the house. 5-ft is the most common pool fence height in NC (meeting the 48-inch minimum with margin) and is also popular for backyards with medium to large dogs. 6-ft is used for security applications and yards with large or jumping dogs. 3-ft and 3.5-ft 'garden' heights are also available.

What colors does aluminum fence come in?

Powder-coated black is by far the most popular — it's the classic wrought-iron look and pairs with every home style. Bronze (a warm dark brown) is the second most common and looks great with brick and earth-tone homes. White, hunter green, and almond/tan are available with extended lead time. The powder coating is baked on at the factory, not painted on-site, so the finish is uniform and durable.

Is aluminum fence secure enough for dogs?

Yes, in most cases, but height matters. 4-ft aluminum works for most small to medium dogs that aren't jumpers. 5-ft is the right answer for most large breeds and for dogs that test fences. 6-ft is recommended for high-drive breeds and known jumpers. Standard picket spacing is 3.875 inches on-center, which prevents most small dogs from squeezing through. For dogs under 15 lbs, we can install puppy-picket panels with 1.5-inch spacing on the bottom half of the fence.

How is aluminum fence installed?

Aluminum installs on a strict 6-foot post spacing — this is non-negotiable because pre-fabricated panels are exactly 72 inches between post centers. Posts are set in concrete, 24–30 inches deep, below the frost line. Once posts cure, panels slide into pre-installed brackets on each post and lock in place. Gates are hung last with self-closing hinges. A typical 150-LF aluminum installation runs 2 working days: Day 1 for posts, Day 2 for panels and gates.

Is aluminum fence good for sloped yards?

Yes — aluminum is actually the best fence material for slopes. Most aluminum panels are 'rackable,' meaning the pickets pivot at the rail joints to allow the entire panel to follow grade up to 15° (some styles allow more). This produces a clean, continuous fence line that follows the slope, unlike vinyl which must be stepped on slopes. We'll walk your grade during the estimate and confirm whether your selected style is rackable to the slope you have.
