Why Vinyl

The low-maintenance Triangle fence

Vinyl fencing is the right choice for Triangle homeowners who want a permanent fence and never want to think about maintenance again. There's no staining cycle, no boards to replace, no rust, no rot, and no painting — the fence looks the same in year 20 as it does in year 1. For families planning to stay in their home long-term, vinyl is often the smartest financial decision even though the upfront cost is higher than wood.

Modern vinyl is dramatically better than the brittle white plastic of 20 years ago. We install commercial-grade virgin vinyl with built-in UV inhibitors and impact modifiers — the material flexes in heat without warping and resists impact from sticks, baseballs and lawn debris that would damage cheaper grades. North Carolina's hot summers and humidity are no problem for properly specified vinyl: in fact, it outperforms wood in our climate because humidity has zero effect on vinyl panels.

We install vinyl across the Triangle for pool enclosures, front-yard picket fences in historic neighborhoods, full-privacy backyard installations, and side-yard runs where homeowners want a clean modern look. Three standard colors (white, tan, gray) cover the vast majority of projects, and every style is available in every color. Lead time on standard colors is usually 2–4 weeks from signed estimate.

Styles

Vinyl fence styles & options

Privacy, picket and semi-privacy styles are available in white, tan and gray. Every style installs with the same concrete-set post system and manufacturer hardware.

Privacy Vinyl (6-ft)

Solid tongue-and-groove panels for full privacy. Available in white, tan, and gray. The most popular vinyl style — clean, modern, zero-maintenance. From $42/LF.

Classic Picket

3-ft or 4-ft picket style available in vinyl (or wood). Vinyl picket means zero painting — the traditional white picket look with none of the upkeep. From $32/LF.

Semi-Privacy

Privacy panels with decorative lattice or open spacing at the top — privacy below, light and airflow above.

Vinyl Shadowbox

Alternating boards on both sides of the rails — finished both sides, airflow between pickets. The good-neighbor option in vinyl.

Color Options

White, tan/almond and gray are standard. Wood-grain textured panels and specialty colors available with extended lead time.

Slope & Custom

Stepped or racked installations for sloped yards. Custom heights (4-ft, 5-ft, 6-ft) and double drive gates available on every style.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

How long does a vinyl fence last?

A quality vinyl fence lasts 20 to 30+ years in the North Carolina climate. Vinyl won't rot, won't warp from humidity, won't be eaten by termites, and never needs painting or staining. The posts and panels are designed to last the lifetime of the home, which is why vinyl is the lowest-maintenance privacy fence material we install. The main wear items are gate hinges (replaceable) and any sections damaged by impact or fallen tree limbs (individual panels can be replaced without rebuilding the run).

Is a vinyl fence more expensive than wood?

Yes — vinyl runs $42–52 per linear foot installed versus $35–42 for pressure-treated wood. The upfront cost is roughly 20–25% higher. However, lifetime cost is significantly lower because vinyl never needs staining, sealing, picket replacement, or repainting. Over a 20-year horizon, the total cost of ownership for vinyl is usually less than wood once you factor in 7–10 stain cycles and picket replacement for wood. For homeowners planning to stay in their home long-term, vinyl is often the better financial choice.

What colors and styles does vinyl fence come in?

We install vinyl in three standard colors — white (most popular), tan/almond, and gray — and four main styles: full 6-ft privacy (solid panels), classic picket (3–4 ft, front yards), semi-privacy (with decorative top spacing), and shadowbox. Every style is available in any of the three colors. Specialty colors and wood-grain finishes can be ordered but add 4–8 weeks of lead time and 10–20% to the panel cost.

Will vinyl fence fade in NC heat and sun?

Quality vinyl with built-in UV inhibitors resists fading remarkably well — most homeowners see no noticeable color change over 15+ years. The key is using virgin (not recycled) vinyl with TiO₂ pigments throughout the material, not just on the surface. We install commercial-grade vinyl from manufacturers that warranty against fading and discoloration, so even in full Triangle sun the fence stays the color you bought.

Can vinyl fence be installed on a slope?

Yes, with two installation methods. 'Stepped' installation keeps every panel level, creating staircase-like steps that follow the grade — this is the standard approach for privacy panels and works on any slope. 'Racked' or 'parallel-to-grade' installation tilts each panel to follow the ground line — this gives a cleaner look but is only available on specific picket and semi-privacy styles. We'll walk your yard during the estimate and recommend the right approach.

Is vinyl fence good for pets?

Excellent. Vinyl has a smooth surface with no splinters, no exposed nails, and no toxic stain chemicals — dogs that chew or scratch on wood can't damage vinyl the same way. A 6-ft solid-panel vinyl privacy fence contains nearly any breed, and 4-ft picket vinyl works well for small and medium dogs. Just confirm picket spacing on picket styles is narrow enough for small breeds (we use 3-inch on-center spacing as standard, which contains most small dogs).

How does vinyl fence installation work?

Vinyl installation is very clean compared to wood. Day 1: we set posts in concrete, the same as wood — 24–30 inch holes, ground-contact below frost line, concrete-filled. Once posts cure, the bottom rail, panels (or rails and pickets, depending on style), and top rail slide into routed slots in the posts and lock in place with manufacturer hardware. Gates are hung last. A typical 150-LF vinyl job takes 2 working days — Day 1 for posts, Day 2 for panels and gates.
